The Olympic Games want a new image for their next edition in order to increase the interest of people in the event and include more universal sports. The International Olympic Committee has tried to introduce a profound renovation of the Games and has proposed to include sports like golf and rugby.
An attractive incorporation to the Games, if this proposition is finally approved, will be the presence of Tiger Woods, the American golfer ranked as the number 1 golf player in the World. The 32-year-old player has won 13 professional major golf championships and 62 PGA Tour events.
Jacques Rogge, president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) said that it is not easy to change the Olympic program because there are an important number of opponents and the decision mechanisms of the IOC are complicated. About this, he stated: “It is complicated. In a private company, the director takes a decision with his executive group today and tomorrow it is applied. We session one time every year. We have 3 days for decisions and that’s a little old fashioned, but it’s the reality of our society”.
About the inclusion of Golf into the Olympics, Rogge emphasizes that this sport has an impediment because it doesn’t have a real world federation, but he said that they will still try to include it as a way to bring more universal sports to the Olympics fans.
